Indians between the ages of eighteen and forty can join the Atal Pension Scheme (APY). You can join the scheme through a bank or post office branch with a savings account. Those who join the scheme will get a minimum pension of Rs.1000 to Rs.5000 after reaching the age of 60 years. The pension is based on the amount contributed by the individual to the APY. If the subscriber dies under unforeseen circumstances the partner will receive a pension. In case of death of both the subscriber and the partner, the amount contributed up to the age of 60 will belong to the nominee.

It is operated by 266 registered APY service providers. This includes various banks and the Department of Posts. Only those who have a savings account can open this account. So PFRDA has directed all banks to promote these accounts.
To expand the APY scheme, PFRDA has recently launched various initiatives to further benefit existing subscribers, the APY Series. State Bank of India (SBI) has added 8 lakh subscribers so far this fiscal. According to the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), APY subscribers crossed 3.30 crore as on August 25.

Meanwhile, according to PFRDA data, 2.33 crore people have subscribed to public sector banks. 61.32 lakhs in Regional Rural Banks, 20.64 lakhs in Private Banks, 10.78 lakhs in Small Finance Banks, Payment Banks, 3.40 lakhs in Post Offices and 84,627 in Cooperative Banks.

Must be 18 to 40 years old to join APY. There are five monthly pension policies. Subscribers can get Rs.1000, Rs.2000, Rs.3000, Rs.4000, Rs.5000 after sixty years. If at the time of joining the scheme the subscriber chooses how much of the above amount he wants to get as pension, he has to pay to that extent. You can also join the APY scheme through SBI Net Banking.
– Login to SBI Net Banking Account is required.
– Click on the ‘Social Security Scheme’ available in the ‘e-Services’ option. Then a new window will open.
– Atal pension plan should be selected.
– Enter and submit the Savings Account number linked to the Atal Pension Scheme.
– After submitting, you will get the option to select the Customer Identification (CIF) number.
– Select the CIF number generated by the system.
– Complete the e-form that appears on the screen.
– Complete personal details. The nominee should then give the details.
– Provide details like pension amount, monthly, quarterly, annual contribution period you want.
– Submit the form and download the acknowledgment receipt.
