The State Bank of India (SBI) recently opened an ATM on a houseboat on Dal Lake in Srinagar. Known as a floating ATM, the ATM was launched on August 16, 2021 by SBI Chairman Shri Dinesh Kumar Khara. SBI recently tweeted a photo of the event on its official Twitter handle. The bank said this was done to become a long-awaited tourist attraction and would add to the appeal of Srinagar.
In a tweet, “SBI has opened an ATM on a houseboat in #Dal Lake, Srinagar, for the convenience of locals and tourists. It was launched by the SBI Chairman on August 16. The #Floating ATM on the popular Dal Lake will meet long-standing needs and add to the charm of Srinagar. “
This is not SBI’s first attempt at this type of floating ATM idea. Please note that the lender previously launched the first floating ATM in Kerala in 2004. The machine was installed on a Jhankar yacht owned by Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC). ATMs operated between Ernakulam and the Vaipeyan region.
SBI continues its efforts to bring innovation and spread its reach nationwide. Currently, it is the largest commercial bank in terms of assets, deposits, branches, customers and employees. To further demonstrate its enormous volume, banks should note that an account of approximately Rs 15,000 was opened through YONO in the quarter ended June 2021.
