Amravati. The strike of container drivers, which was going on since August 30, against the Pooja Construction Company, which is handling the contract of picking up garbage in the municipal area, ended successfully on the evening of Friday, 3 September. The contracting company has given a written assurance to implement all the demands of the container drivers within a month.

EPF, ESI regular from the year 2017

Safai Karamcharis from April 2017 to regularize EPF and ESI of all employees, Rs 125 wages on each container trip, four days off in a month, eight hours of work, identity cards to all workers, security kits and security of all vehicles. There were demands to get fitness certificate, insurance and to implement medical claim to the workers. All these demands have been accepted.

The workers alleged that the contract company is exploiting the container drivers as well as the sanitation workers financially. After which the container drivers and sweepers of the city went on strike demanding justice. As part of the agitation, an indefinite dharna was also organized at the collector’s office. Garbage was not picked up in the city during the agitation, due to which many areas of the city also witnessed an empire of filth. On the fifth day of the strike, Municipal Deputy Commissioner Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Labor and Siddharth Bothra of the contract company had a positive discussion with the agitators. In which all the demands of the cleaning workers were accepted. After which the workers celebrated.

Supported by many organizations

Many social and political organizations had shown support for this strike of sanitation workers, started through Jai Constitution Sangathan. These included organizations like All India Panther Sena, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, KGN Group, Republican Army, BSP, Hum Bharat Ke Log, MIM and Prahar. Similarly Narayan Chavan, Sunil Khadse, Wasim Khan, Pramod Gaikwad, Firoz Khan, Sheikh Qadeer, Mohd. Arif, Imran Khan, Abdul Kalam, Abdul Hameed, Mohammad Arif, Abdul Malik, Ajit Khan, Mohd. Shabbir, A. Jabbar, Raju Dhake, Sadiq, etc. 45 container drivers and 51 sweepers, thus a total of 96 workers were included. Similarly Dr. Alim Patel, Kiran Guddhe, Rahim Rahi, JM Gondane, Yash Sirsath, Shamail Khan, Rahul Chavan, Hidayat Khan, Mangesh Kanerkar, Aslam Rehbar, Syed Naseem, Vaibhav Raibole, Shakeel Khan, Mujeeb Khan, Ejaz Khan, Ansar Baig etc. played an important role in making the strike successful.
