New York: Ramis Alakbarov, the UN special envoy to Afghanistan, has warned that “food supplies for the Afghan population will run out this month.”
Four crore people live in Afghanistan, a South Asian country. More than six lakh of them are fleeing in fear of Taliban rule. The UN has been providing food to 800 children who are in need of basic necessities, including food and water. UN Deputy Special Representative Ramis Alakbarov told reporters:
The food items provided to Afghanistan under the World Food Program will be exhausted by this month.

After that, one crore people will probably not even get food every day. They will need at least Rs 1,500 crore to provide food. Children under the age of 5 in Afghanistan are suffering from malnutrition. These children will no longer even have access to food. Kabul airport alone has 800 children. Thus he said.

The United Nations has sent 600 tons of food and medicine in vehicles to Afghanistan’s Mazar – e – Sharif airport via Pakistan.
The biggest challenge
Meanwhile, school teachers and public sector employees have been left without pay due to the regime change in Afghanistan. Political observers say the Taliban’s biggest challenge will be to deal with food shortages and economic unrest in Afghanistan.
