The PU administration has withdrawn the decision to close the 30 to 40 years old canteens in the departments of Panjab University campus. In this matter, this decision has been taken after the suggestions sought by all the departments in front of the committee constituted by the PU Vice Chancellor. The departments have given in writing to the committee in this regard that the students, teachers and other faculty are not in favor of closing the old canteen. In such a situation, now the old canteen tea, coffee and samosa, which is called the pride of PU campus and the most happy spot, will continue to be available to the students as before. Dainik Jagran in the July 28 issue had revealed the preparations by the PU administration to secretly close all the old canteens and give contract to an expensive brand. Since then, the PU campus has started protesting against this decision of the PU administration. The student organizations protested in front of the committee officials and demanded the withdrawal of the decision in writing. More than 15 thousand students visit these canteens in PU campus.
A meeting of the committee constituted under the chairmanship of DSW was held to close the old canteen. According to sources, in the meeting held on July 29, Puta, Pusa and some other members had strongly opposed the closure of the old canteen. After which the committee had asked all the departments to survey and report on the decision to close the canteen. In the meeting, it was made clear to the PU administration on behalf of UIPS, Law Department, UBS and Chemistry Department that many are not in favor of closing the existing canteen. The committee was now left with no option but to reject the proposal.
Rates of Chai Somse increase manifold
In the old canteen running in PU for years, students get tea, samora and lunch at very low rates. The PU administration had made preparations to give the contract of all the canteens to some well-known brands like Gobid, Gopal. After which the burden on the pockets of the students would have been manifold. Hundreds of students in the campus used to buy goods from these canteens at cheap prices. For the past one and a half years, due to the corona epidemic, the PU administration has closed all the canteens.
PU declared result
Panjab University on Friday declared the result of Bachelor of Physical Education (four-year) seventh semester and B.Com (Hons) sixth semester examination held in May 2021. Students can check the result on PU and college website.
